MILITARY-HISTORICAL MUSEUM of ARTILLERY, ENGINEER and SIGNAL CORPS

The Museum - the coeval of Saint Petersburg - stems its history from Zeughaus (arsenal) built in the Peter- and- Paul Fortress by the order of Emperor Peter the Great who himself examined the guns intended for "eternal" custody in August, 1703.

Count P.I.Shuvalov organized the "Memorable Hall" on the basis of the Zeughaus collection in 1752. It was housed in Liteinyi avenue in Saint Petersburg. That time the collection included about 6000 exhibits.

Since 1869, the depositary of rarities of the world military history has been placed in the Arsenal at Kronverk, which made a joint fortified complex together with the Peter- and- Paul Fortress.

...

Now the Museum is one of the most significant military-historical museum in the world, possessing most valuable collections of small and cold steel arms, banners, military uniform, battle-pieces, graphics, sculptures, awards and insignia.
